I've been working on a sorta-secret project since the beginning of the month. I can't really say what it is, only that it's a gift and I need to get it done very soon. I hope to have it done so I can give it to a special little guy before it gets cold and before he gets too big!
It's an adorable design and it hasn't been too difficult. However, I'm in the home stretch (only have to sew in two key pieces and then some ends) and I've been trying to finish for what seems like hours. I've sewn in with mattress stitch. It didn't look right, so I tore it out. I sewed with backstitch, halfway around, discovered I hadn't sewn far enough into the knitted fabric and you could see some edges still, and so I had to tear it out. Carefully (because the two pieces I need to sew to the larger piece--trying to be vague here intentionally--are smaller in diameter than the larger piece), I matched everything up, got a good sewing rhythm down, did my best backstitch, finished the one side and turned it right side out. The stitching looked great!
But something looked funny. Why did it look funny?
Oh. Because the smaller piece was INSIDE OUT. At least I sewed it in well. GAAAH!
Sigh. I give up for tonight. Maybe in a day or two this project will be able to come back out from its time-out in the corner.
Ugh.

I have done that so many times with sewing. My current dress is in time-out until spring. I sewed the bodice onto the skirt inside out and had double stitched and edge stitched it before I knew what I had done. Grrr....
Sympathies
