I'm done with all the yarn-related parts of this bag! Hooray!
I sewed it all together, and added the i-cord edging. See the bright red cord around the edge?
That's the i-cord edging. It's knitted on as you are making it so you don't have to sew it on after the fact. That would not be fun, in my opinion.
Also, do you remember how I said I was going to rip out the flap because I couldn't stand it being so ucky? I lied, apparently. I sat down, braced to tear it out. I've become more used to tearing out my hard work since becoming a knitter--it's taught me that I don't want to rush through things just to get them done. When I do that, I have to stare at my mistakes or sloppy work and be disappointed that I didn't just put a little more time and effort into this thing I've already spent so much time on. So, anyway, I was sitting there, scissors nearby, needle at the ready to pick up the stitches at the beginning so I could unravel away just to the second row and not lose all my stitches. I sat there and prepared. And I sat. And stared at it. I could not do it. I just couldn't bring myself to tear it out. I don't know if that means that I really hate intarsia or I really am lazy or what, but I could NOT do it. So I reblocked. And I tightened stitches up, and closed holes. It's passable. It's okay. Not great. But I'll live with it. I'm really ok with it. Even though I know I could probably make it look even better. I don't want to.
Now I need to put in a lining (and something to make it keep a shape--and not sag) and a closure. Because of my bestest friend's recommendation I use a satiny lining, I'm going to use one of those slubby, fake-silk polyester liners, probably in a light brown. It's gonna look great! Unfortunately, because my sewing machine's iffy right now, I'm going to have to do it by hand. Fortunately, that means I can get everything sewn in the way I want it, including making the flap look as good as possible.
I have my fingers crossed that I'll be able to use this this Fall. Any bets one way or the other?
