----------------------------------------------------
I'm proud of myself. I took apart my sewing machine and cleaned and oiled it up real good-like. It had been going slower and slower and getting louder and louder, and for the life of me I couldn't figure out what the problem was. I mentioned it to my father in law, Harry, and he said it probably needed oil. Um, duh, Erin! It was a forehead-slapping moment. I mean, spinning wheels need to be oiled because of all the moving parts. Sewing machines have much higher rpm, so it stands to reason they probably need it even more!I opened it up, cleaned it, oiled it, watched it go. It runs so well now! Really fast. Still a few little noises in there, but it's old. The problem with the bobbin winder is still there, though, even though I tinkered with the handwheel and the gears in there. I can't figure out why the knob won't disengage from the gears driving the sewing needle itself. Oh well. It's fairly minor, and this machine is very sturdy, so hopefully it'll stick around for many more years (I think it's as old or older than myself). I'd like to start teaching the kids how to sew--possibly even Brad, since he doesn't know how. It's something that everyone should know how to do, in my opinion!
