A little crocheted lace...finally.

I've been working on this project for, well, probably years.  It's not the project, it's me.  I just put it away for a long time.  The funny thing was, when I took it out, I had about one and a half rounds left, and that's it!  Of course, when I finished that half round, I discovered why it had ended up in the closet, forgotten.  It had a big mistake that would require ripping back quite a bit of work to fix.  At that point, I just decided to fudge it the best I could and finish the darn thing, and really, I don't even know where the mistake is now (although if I sat down and really looked at it, I know I could find it fairly easily).

Over the last few years, I've tinkered with crochet; I like it for lace and little things like toys or decorative flowers and whatnot.  I have a soft spot for some types of Granny Squares, too.  But mostly I knit, it's just the way I am.  I have done a couple of these lace doilies now, and this one is definitely a big improvement over the last (first?) one--however, I do still have some tension issues to work out.

Here it is, blocking:

And the finished item:

It's about 16" by 22".  I like it, but it has reverted a bit, post-blocking, to a slightly smaller, more wrinkly size.  Maybe I should give it a tiny bit of starch next time I wash it, just to help it keep its shape.  I guess it could be worth trying (someday).

Very pretty, nice work! Is that crochet cotton?

I have got to ask you about this blocking you keep talking about. I have no idea what that really means...but it looks like it means lots of pins! :-)

Blocking is just washing or wetting your work and pinning or laying it out to the dimensions it is supposed to be. It's a somewhat scary name for "washing and letting it dry in the right shape". With lace, it does entail a lot of pins (and/or wires), to get it to open up so you can see the detail.
